Head coach Garry Cave is a fantastic coach with many years of boxing experience. It's a well equipped gym with plenty of training nights and plenty of coaches. All they ask of you is to turn up and put in 100% All equipment provided all you need to bring is a gum shield, hand wraps and a water bottle.

Fantastic experience: After my horse was put to sleep in 2015, I was feeling abit lost with what todo. I love sports with challenges to face so thought I'll come along to Smelters and see what it was all about as it was only down the road from me and my partner has been going for years. I thought it would be scary joining a boxing club with a load of lads and with me not knowing a thing. Wow I was mistaken, there are GIRLS, and yes lots lads but also children, so a complete mixture. Everyone is so friendly and the head coach Garry is always showing you new skills and helping you get it right along with their many coaches. All abilities to go, as a beginner I didn't have a clue, I was shown 1-1 the basics with one of their many coaches and from there on I've been going around work, as you pay £5 for the week and they have so many sessions, if you can't make one you can go on another day it's great. I had never taken any interest in it before now, but it's not about just punching. It's all about fitness, technique, patience, control and the ability to to actually want to learn and listen as one day your be in that ring in a bout trying to win.
