Fantastic experience: Strong for life is a great little gym which gives you just about everything a weightlifter could want, it's a fab community making you feel very welcome with a lovely owner who can offer a wealth of knowledge and great coaching.

Fantastic experience: Great place to train. Friendly and inviting. As a female training, some gyms can feel intimidating. Not here. Just trained amongst males doing deadlifts and was super comfortable. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: My daughter and I were training at a local gym and we became interested in 'cross-fit'. Our drawback was the two Olympic Lifts (Snatch & C&J). So we looked around for a coach and found Sam. I thought maybe 6 weeks to learn these two movements? Four & half years later we are still with Sam and still learning. Our time with Sam has been brilliant and our confidence has increased immensely. Sam also has a fantastic group of members who are always willing to help and create a great training environment. Fantastic Gym!!

Fantastic experience: Strong for life is possibly one of the best gyms I’ve ever been to. There is no other gym I would recommend more. The facility itself is so well equipped and well maintained, with Sam always striving for excellence. But most important is the culture and community Sam has built. The community is so wonderful and this is what makes strong for life such a supportive, encouraging and motivating space. I began coaching with Sam earlier this year, after previously attending the weightlifting groups. Sam is undoubtedly the best coach I’ve ever worked with. His knowledge, passion and encouragement is endless and is evident in the results achieved. The quality of the programme and coaching is so thorough, detailed and individual. Sam’s understanding, patience and support has been so invaluable in helping me to develop not only my Olympic lifts, but also my enjoyment throughout the journey and the sport.

Fantastic experience: I have been working with Sam at SFL for nearly 2 years. When I started I knew that to get the results I wanted I needed someone who knew better than me about nutrition and training and would keep me accountable. I had never worked with a coach before and always relied on my own research, google, YouTube etc., I had made progress but always hit a wall and couldn’t go any further. Contacting someone I didn’t know was scary, I didn’t know what to expect especially as it was strength training but even from the initial contact Sam was clearly very knowledgeable, patient and a good listener. All our goals have been realistic and manageable and the work we do looking at proper lifting form and training intensity has been invaluable and also fun, without Sam I would never have realised I love to deadlift! I’ve lost over 10kgs in weight but more than that my consistency and my belief in what I’m capable off has increased beyond anything I expected, I cannot recommend Sam enough. It can be scary to reach out to get the right support but do it, do it scared because its 110% worth it.

Fantastic experience: I trained with Sam throughout 2022 and it has been transformative for me. As someone in their 40s that had never done weight training before, my objective was to get stronger while learning the correct techniques to avoid injury. Sam is patient and a good listener and from initial assessment started me with a range of bodyweight exercises, gradually building up the loads over the year. This was done alongside high protein / low fat diet plans and nutritional support, all managed through a clear and easy to use app, where progress can be easily tracked. The result after a year is that I am 20lbs lighter but, more importantly, I'm strong, able do things easily that in the past would have caused me pain for days, for example DIY (lifting/climbing, no more back pain), riding my motorcycle (no more leg and hip pain), walking my dogs (more stamina, stronger on the uphill sections), working at a desk (better posture, stronger lower back). Simply put, I feel very strong and it's a great feeling that is more than just the physical, it's also mentally rewarding and translates directly to feeling happy and positive. I'm looking forward to life ahead and I totally recommend Sam, with his excellent facilities, to support you in your quest to become Strong for Life!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, fab equipment and easy yet secure access 24/7. Love it! It’s never overcrowded as there’s a simple to use system to make sure it only allows a set number of people in within certain time slots. Everyone is super friendly and shares similar goals, so it’s great to get to know everyone and help each other out.

Fantastic experience: I recently worked with Sam for a number of months. He taught me so much - not just about how to lift weights, but also about nutrition, relaxation, and how to generally take care of the body and mind. I used to think that lifting weights was just for people who wanted huge muscles, but I now realise this is not the case. Sam taught me that weights and resistance work bring huge benefits for anyone who wants to be healthy. I would highly recommend Sam and Strong for Life!

Fantastic experience: I been a member of Strong for Life for almost 2 years. The gym is well-equipped with a wide variety of weightlifting equipment. The community of weightlifters has grown this year - they are supportive of one another, which creates a great atmosphere and is good for motivation when you’re lifting in the gym. Sam (Strong for Life owner) is very knowledgeable and offers helpful tips, feedback and available for questions both face to face and via messaging. I highly recommend Strong for Life to anyone serious about weightlifting or just looking to get started.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and gym, love training at this gym as I can bring my toddler with me when I can't get childcare. Sam is a great Trainer and his gym is amazing. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly highly recommended 24 hour access to the club is great for when you can't fit in your workout in normal day hours aswell.

Fantastic experience: A really great gym for weightlifting. The best in Hull. Sam is helpful and friendly as are the other members. Top prices too for the standard of equipment. Chance to buy energy drinks would be a big plus for me, as would some dedicated (dry) bicycle storage.

We asked the landlord last week about bicycle storage and they said there are plans in the medium-long term to install a full bike store as part of the full renovations of the site. No date confirmed as yet, but will keep you updated! Noted on the energy drinks. If we get others requesting this, we will certainly look at having a fridge/machine installed.
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend strong for life to anyone. It is such a welcoming atmosphere and you never struggle to get on equipment. I used to be really nervous in the gym but since coming here I have never felt self conscious and have always feel supported by everyone there. I think it’s such a great environment and I wouldn’t want to go back to a big gym after this!

Fantastic experience: Sam has been my coach for powerlifting for a couple of years and his passion and attention to detail stands above others. We’ve worked together remotely and he’s helped improve my form and my mindset towards the heaviest lifts. He’s given me the confidence to compete in regional powerlifting events and has travelled to support me on the day. If you’re looking for a coach, Sam comes highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Strong for Life is a great gym; well equipped, clean, and welcoming. What sets it apart is the community Sam is building, made up of of many different people with experience levels. I’m a relative beginner to strength training but have never felt out of place , and I enjoy the environment. I’ve also been receiving 1:1 coaching from Sam and it’s been fantastic, he challenges me while also giving you all the knowledge and support you need to succeed. Training here is one of the highlights of my week. Keep it coming!

Fantastic experience: As a strength and conditioning coach myself I love my weekly sessions with Sam. His level of knowledge and attention to detail is second to none. I always feel that I have come out of a session both stronger and more confident in myself and with extra little bits of knowledge which help me in my own coaching. The gym itself is a fantastic unit, really well equipped and also light and clean with a great atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: I trained with Sam for 6 months, and I can honestly say that within that six months I’ve met every goal I’d set out to meet. Sam provided a vast array of technical knowledge that benefited me in and out of the gym. The sessions I had with him were challenging but extremely rewarding, and his approach to coaching meant that I didn’t leave a single session feeling like I hadn’t achieved a new goal or reached a new milestone. The facilities at strong for life are excellent, the equipment his top notch and the atmosphere is perfect for training. Overall, I cannot recommend Strong for life enough. During my time there I reignited my love for training, became more happy, more confident and, of course, far stronger. I will continue to use the knowledge gained from my time at strong for life and I have no doubt it will benefit me going forward. I couldn’t recommend Strong for life enough for anybody who wants to become happier, healthier and stronger.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been working with Sam and Strong for life for well over a year now and can safely say it’s been the best decision I’ve made with regards to training. Prior to starting with Sam I was struggling to balance my training and work commitments meaning I was lacking motivation and enjoyment. Following my initial consultation Sam put together a plan and program that aligned with my goals and fitted my lifestyle perfectly. Not only has the programming I’ve received over the last year been balanced and enjoyable but it has worked so well. I’ve never felt as strong or moved as well as I do now.

When due to my limited mobility I couldn't do a movement, Sam would show me alternative ones. Fantastic experience: I have never been so shattered while standing still! Training with Sam for 6 weeks. My aim to be more flexible, fitter and stronger with a fresh attitude. Fantastic experience: I have always been an active and busy person, but for the past year I have been plagued with bad Arthritic knees. My son saw me struggling one day and said, why don’t you go to see Sam at (Strong for Life)? I am a very self conscious person and after I psyched myself up, I made an appointment to go and meet Sam. Well that is now history. I started a course of training with Sam and I have never looked back. It has given me confidence and boosted my self esteem. I can now walk without my walking stick and am more mobile in my home, than I have been in a while. Sam tailored the training sessions to meet my specific needs, which are full of variety and a lot of fun. He challenges my capabilities but made sure there was no risk to me. I leave the sessions feeling exhilarated. I highly recommend Sam (Strong for Life). His professionalism and passion are second to none. He cares and makes me feel special. I will be seventy this year, and without Sam’s help and guidance I would still be struggling. I have set myself a goal. I want to go walking and climbing at a place called Valley of the Rock in Devon, and I have every intention of achieving this goal. Thanks Sam, you are a gentleman and a star

Fantastic experience: I've been weight training with Sam for 8 months now and have made lots of progress during this time. I'm hitting personal bests in the gym on squats, deadlifts and presses etc. I've also increased my bodyweight and lean body mass at the same time. Sam pays close attention to my lifting form and pinpoints areas of my technique and mobility which I can improve on. Sam has close to a decade of weight lifting experience and because of his knowledge and experience I've been hitting personal bests in the gym. Fantastic experience: Strongly (pun intended) recommend Strong for life for weightlifter out there, whether you be novice, capable or even confident. My wife and I am have both used several of Sam’s services in recent years and can’t speak highly enough of him. To sum up his approach I’d use the words interested, patient and knowledgable. Sam is genuinely interested in your goals and your progress and constructs programmes and sessions built around those goals. There is no one size fits all solution as everyone is different and this is clear in how Sam approaches his work. Sam’s very patient and as a high-level weight lifter himself is ideally placed to understand his clients frustrations and challenges. Anyone and everyone could benefit from using Strong for Life whether you’re looking to get into weight lifting or perhaps already do lift weights and are looking to progress to that next level.

Fantastic experience: Sam is very encouraging with his training programmes and breaks down each of the moves to ensure you are in the correct position, gaining the best from each exercise. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning Olympic weight training technique, and have notice a change in my strength and physique. A lot of people have assumed lifting heavy weights will make ladies increase dramatically in size, however this is not the case. I feel stronger and leaner.

Fantastic experience: Always thought I knew enough about fitness that was until I tried a 30 min free PT taster session with Sam at David Lloyd, I’m now hooked had about 15 personal sessions and amazed at the results. Fantastic experience: Sam first introduced me to Olympic weightlifting, I went through the 6 week beginners course Sam runs. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking at starting out and wanting to learn more about technique. Sam is a patient and encouraging coach, with a focus on form and technique, with his passion for the sport of Olympic lifting really rubbing off. He is really doing credit to the sport, and continues to help to increase particiption at all abilities.
Fantastic experience: Sam is a great coach and very knowledgeable in his craft. As a dedicated weightlifter himself, he knows a great deal about building the required strength and correct mobilisation of the body to tailor a training program to suit your strengths as well as your weaknesses; not just a generic template. Training with Sam has dramatically improved my strength, mobility and overall coordination. Sam has also helped me with rehabilitating my terrible, terrible knees through sports massages and stretching best practices. All round stand up guy, likes long walks on the beach, staying in with a glass of wine and a DVD, and lifting heavy things. 11/10
