Fantastic experience: I travelled from out of town for a 5-day private training camp with Ivam Maciel and I had a brilliant time. I hadn't trained in a long time, so I was a little bit apprehensive at first, but Ivam was very welcoming and accommodating to my needs. His gym is beautiful and clean. Even has a beautiful skylight. Great location being right next to Portslade train station, and there are plenty of shops/restaurants nearby. I'm already planning my next trip to One Jiu-Jitsu. I would definitely recommend it. Fantastic experience: As an ex rugby and squash player now in my 40s I was looking for a new hobby that combined fitness and contact while learning a new skill. Some guys at work planted the Jiu-Jitsu seed in my brain and then following some research I contacted Ivam. I’ve trained here now for about 3 months and have really enjoyed it. Every coach and student has been so welcoming. The gym is first class, large and clean. Getting here is also a doddle as it’s next to the station and there is ample free parking in the surrounding area. A big bonus for me is that I work shifts so I needed flexibility in class times to be able to attend. The class timetable caters perfectly for this with beginner classes morning and evening throughout the week. In summary, it really didn’t matter that I had no martial art experience and I urge any one to give it a go. In my short space of exposure to Jiu-Jitsu I already feel stronger, fitter and more confident and excited to attend my next class. Cheers Ivam and the rest of the team

Fantastic experience: I went to an introductory lesson and had a great time. As someone slightly older in their years (over 40) I was nervous at first but the teacher and the rest of the class made me feel welcome and most importantly safe. Every activity was carefully explained with the aims clearly laid out and where to be careful. At the end we got to put these lessons into practice in a little contest with other students - what an experience! To actually put into play what you've learned was amazing. My muscles ached more after one hour session than all my gym sessions that week and I discovered muscles I didn't know I even had! A great way to work out, let out the stresses of the week and learn something that you'll never want to use but could if needed. A great little community of supportive individuals.

Fantastic experience: I trained at One JuiJitsu while taking part in an ultra MMA event, off the bat it’s a great place to train. Ivam Micheal being the head coach is a fantastic person to train under. He has a lot of experience and knowledge to be tapped into. I really enjoyed my time training there, Ivam being the head coach hosted most of the sessions with one of his students jeffery filling in for Ivam while he was unavailable. Both are great people to begin with so naturally they are fantastic coaches. They welcomed us into their gym. At no point will you feel uncomfortable or silly if you get something wrong. It really is a great place to train. As someone who trained kickboxing, I really enjoyed learning JuiJitsu from Ivam and Jefferey. They break it down so much step by step that it turns something really complicated into easy to follow steps. Wether you are a beginner or more advanced I definitely would recommend One JuiJitsu. Coach Ivam is a humble host and he and his students ensured that I felt at home during the class. Coach is a master of his craft and the structure of the training was a great mix for a broad range of ability (white to black belt). Fantastic experience: 5 stars seems too little for what this place did for us! My 5 year old son was struggling in school and some bullying and his confidence was so low. I honestly didn't know if I'd ever get my little bright, happy confidant boy again. When I found this place I was just happy he wanted to meet other kids and engage in anything tbh. Wow! First of all, the group of kids that attend these classes are phenomenal! They range in age (5-11 I believe) and are extremely welcoming , helpful and nurturing. The coach (Ivam) is super attentive, and sensitive to each of their needs and level of experience ( zero in our case) . He was encouraging and my boy really looks up to him. We've only been there for a couple of months and my son is BACK! He is resilient, confidant, happy and excited to go every week. Hands down the best decision I've ever made.

Fantastic experience: Both my daughter and I have been training with Ivam at One Jiu Jitsu for about half a year now and I love the transformation we’ve both had. My daughter who’s 6 has become a lot more confident since joining the club and can’t wait to go back every time she finishes. Even though she’s naturally quite strong and flexible, I can see improvements in both areas. But for Ivam, it’s not just all about physical strength. He teaches them respect, responsibility and patience and puts a lot of focus on those key areas of personal development. For me personally, I’ve tried lots of different sports but never felt quite at home and moved on fairly soon. With BJJ it’s the complete opposite. I’ve loved my journey and am impressed by the amount of progress I’ve made in such a short time. While for me it’s mostly about fitness, I’m not complaining about also having made a bunch of new friends. Having just moved to the area it was amazing being welcomed with open arms by existing members. Fantastic experience: Having recently decided I needed a new sporting challenge, I decided to try BJJ. One Jiu Jitsu was recommended by a friend and when I made enquiries with Ivam, he responded quickly and was very encouraging. Since stepping on to the mats, I have fallen in love with the sport. The coaches and team are all friendly, approachable and fun. I’m constantly put through my paces and challenged in a sport that is physically demanding and technical, in equal measure. I’ve found the coaching to be some of the best I’ve had. The demonstrations and explanations of the drills are easy to understand. The coaches identify where I fall into error and help to make minor adjustments to improve my technique. The higher grade belts are always supportive and I was instantly made to feel a part of the team. I feel safe when rolling with other white belts as there is constant oversight from the higher grades. As a professional who works long hours, I’ve always struggled to find classes that fit into my working pattern, but at one BJJ, open mats starts as early as 7am and some of the evening classes start at 8pm. BJJ appears to be a predominantly male dominated sport but I’ve felt respected and supported as an equal, even though I’m often one of the only women there. I feel mentally and physically strong and have much more clarity of thought. So ladies, if you’re reading this, wondering whether to give it a try, please come and roll with us. You’ll never look back! AND as a Brucey bonus, there’s a gorgeous dog, Kyra, who’s the team mascot (well, at least that’s how I think of her).

Thank you for allowing me to train at the academy at hours all over the place and train the best way I learn/improve in the things I love i.e wrestling, bjj & mma grappling. Fantastic experience: I have been training with Ivam Maciel for over a year now and I'd like to share a story which demonstrates how this training has had a life-changing effect on my confidence and assertiveness. Recently, I saw a man harassing a woman in the streets, she was trying to get away from him and crying, but he was holding onto her and not letting her go. Normally, I would not have had the confidence to do anything, I may have asked someone for help but not have done anything myself. But with the knowledge and mindset Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has taught me it gave me the inner-confidence to step in. I went up to them, put myself in between the two and put my hands on the mans shoulder and told him to stop. The whole thing was resolved shortly after that. I didn't fight him, it didn't get that far. But Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Ivam Maciels training had inspired confidence and courage in me. Fantastic experience: I only started with Ivam a couple of months ago but this bjj stuff is addictive! As someone who is 40 years old, has never done any martial arts and being very overweight I was extremely nervous about rocking up to a place which I assumed would be full of ripped mma guys who would just laugh and resent my mere presence. I couldn't have been more wrong! Sure most, if not all, the guys and girls are in good shape! But they have all been welcoming and haven't judged me for what I can't do and have all been more than willing to drill moves, spar with me and help me. It seems as long as I'm trying my hardest, people are good with that. As for Ivam himself he is a very friendly and approachable. He is very calm, patient and great at breaking down the, what can be complicated, moves. He is superb at explaining why you are doing each part of the manoeuvres and this really helps me understand. So yeah, it's great! He has lots of classes at different times which will help me keep up my attendance as time goes by. And as for fitness. .....its a hell of a work out! But it has a goal at the end of it (being better at bjj) and that has been a huge motivation. It works for me in a way gyms running or anything like that have ever done. It makes me want to exercise and eat more healthily, so I can become better at bjj. I've lost over 20 lbs (9 kilos) since I started. Long may it continue! I only wish I started when I was 20!

Fantastic experience: There is something very special about this gym. I only had the chance to train here for a few months before leaving Brighton, but BJJ has become an addiction. Ivam is a great teacher, really great at explaining the details. The gym has a great vibe, filled with friendly people, and there is a real team atmosphere when you train here. Fantastic experience: Excellent gym. Incredible coach and fantastic team all training together. I had tried bjj for a few weeks at another gym but never really got going as it all felt slow paced. I gave it another go at Ivam's gym and have just finished my first week. I am totally hooked. Great teaching in a clear broken down method with the full team helping you through the steps as you learn what feels like a new language. Learning a martial art for first time was important but so too was finding something fun that could help me lose weight. After my first week I already feel better and have dropped 2kg. Sparring is available from the get go and can be as competitive as you choose it to be with a wide range of men and women with varying abilities and experience. Amazing first week where I have learned so much from Ivam and met some new friends. Highly recommended!!!!

Negative experience: Ivan is not a good teacher, he is arrogant and snobbish. He is interested in making money and not to teach the true foundations of jiu jitsu. Respect and discipline are not things you will find in that gym as he flirts his students. For Ivan the money comes first. The academy does not have space, so has a bathroom that is mixed for men and women. There is not a space reserved for women to exchange clothes. One of the worst clubs in which I already attended.

Fantastic experience: Attended a beginners class today with my 8 year old son and we were both made to feel extremely welcome. Ivam is a great instructor and we can't wait for our next session. Would highly recommend.
