Westover CrossFit, situated at Bournemouth's West Hants Club. CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity.
CrossFit is a fitness regimen developed by Greg Glassman over several decades. Glassman, CrossFit's Founder was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. He then created a program specifically designed to improve fitness and health.
The community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together is a key component of why CrossFit is so effective, and it gave birth to a global network of CrossFit affiliates that number over 13,000. Harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means.
While CrossFit challenges the world's fittest, the program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.
I’ve been in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years now, predominantly as a personal trainer and Strength and Conditioning coach. I have been lucky enough to attend some amazing conferences, seminars, and workshops, learning from some incredible speakers and coaches from all over the world.
I’m sure many peoples first impression of CrossFit would be the same as all the other fads, dismissing it after having had their fingers burnt by false promises in the past. I must confess when I first heard about it years ago this was my initial reaction. It all changed when I did my first WOD (Workout of the day)...

Fantastic experience: I was visiting the UK from Canada and dropped into Westover Crossfit. I was a little nervous as I'm still fairly new to the sport, but everyone was incredibly welcoming and kind. Adrian (owner) was awesome and helped me PR my toes-to-bar!! Fantastic experience: I served in the military, becoming a regular member at 10+ Boxes across the world (Spain, UK) and the US (FL, CA, MA, RI, IL, DC, WA) since I started CrossFitting in 2014. Westover CrossFit is the best all-around CrossFit Box I have found. I look for 3 things in a good Box (CrossFit Gym): 1. Thoughtful Programming. 2. Knowledgeable, "No Ego" Instruction. 3. State of-the-Art Facilities and Equipment. 1. Head Coach Adrian has a plan to get you fit, from beginner to experienced, on each of the 3 domains of CrossFit (Strength, Cardio, Gymnastics). The regular classes incorporate basic Olympic Lifting (strength) instruction and solid WODs (Workouts of the Day). The twice-weekly focus on strength allows you to build on a solid foundation and focus on target areas to improve across all basic lifts (deadlift, squat, snatch, clean and jerk). Once a week, the signature "Engine Room" gets your cardio and aerobic capacity up with a longer high-intensity workout, which is the right balance for me to gain muscle and burn fat. Finally, the twice-monthly focus on the basics of gymnastics work (pull-ups, rope climbs, handstand pushups, jump rope work) allows you to see real progression and generate wins to keep you motivated. 2. My fitness goals are to be able to carry my luggage through the airport and get up off the ground by myself when I'm 90 years old. Some other CrossFit instructors judge you for not putting on "enough" weight early "enough" in your training. They yell at you like a drill instructor or don't have sufficient CrossFit experience to provide cues and instruction at the approprirate time. That doesn't work for me. Westover CrossFit has a different approach. No one will judge you for working on your form with an empty bar, for as long as you deem necessary. The instructors provide personalized cues at just the right level to help you reach your goals and improve. They thoughtfully offer modifications of the workouts to account for the inevitable aches and pains of learning new exercises. Shoulder mobility issues? Knee stiffness? Hamstring pain? Difficulty getting below parallel on a squat? Adrian and his team will design a modification to keep you on track while your body recovers. The Box also offers a regular nutrition program that I'm excited to try soon. Those who have been through it have achieved remarkable results in a short time, while also engaging in a positive community of like-minded folks to cheer them on. 3. The large, high-ceilinged gym space has ample functional fitness equipment that is constantly updated. Each week, it seems there are new tools to work on particular focus areas and mobility issues, preventing injury. I really appreciate the open garage door which has access to a quiet street on which to do farmers' carries and runs outside when weather permits. The tools and next-level equipment give you confidence that you are receiving quality instruction in a safe, clean environment with tools designed to up your game for the long-term. Overall, Westover Crossfit is my top choice for reaching my fitness goals because of the excellent programming, quality instruction and up-to-date equipment and space. These all create a welcoming and supportive community which is a pleasure to be a part of.

Fantastic experience: The team is amazing and always a nice atmosphere. Adrian is really friendly and pushes you to work harder when he should and lets you scale down when necessary. The WODs are fairly demanding but always with options to scale down. Only recommendation would be to include more gymnastic exercises but that's only personal preference
