Fantastic experience: I rarely write reviews, but here goes… Have been there on and off for a few years. Arthritis last year led to some lack of strength and used Joe PT for some sessions before a big hike in Albania and Kosovo, which helped massively. After a winter of lethargy, then talking to the amazing staff there, who encouraged me enormously to get back training, I did. Through old and new advice and just watching the PTs, exercising there and a lot of cycling and hiking, now finally dropped the 25kg + that I desperately needed. Blood pressure down, cholesterol down, medical age down, and significantly improved mental health (they consider this really important and it is reflected in all they do). Non-judgmental, friendly, relaxed atmosphere and decent music. All ages/shapes/sizes. I recommended them to a several people who also think the same. Owners and trainers among the nicest people in Exeter. They greet everyone by name, and remember your goals. I can only recommend and massively thank. And membership gets you discounts at local businesses. Reads somewhat gushing, but deservedly so.

Fantastic experience: Friendly atmosphere, really appreciative of my trainer Joe who has helped all 3 in my group to be stronger and fitter. Would recommend for anyone who wants to do strength training and particularly women over 40 who don’t know where to start.
Fantastic experience: Great gym been going here for about 2 1/2 years, great quality equipment constantly changed around and updated. Always nice and clean, great trainers in there always polite and extremely helpful. Parking available which is a big bonus for me too

Fantastic experience: I've been using Quay Fitness for about 12 months now. I was a very nervous user at first but it is such a friendly and welcoming place. I had PT sessions with Luke for a few months who completely put me at ease & gave me so much help & confidence, as well as making me comfortable using the machines. I can't fault the place & I've become an avid gym user thanks to all.
Fantastic experience: Trained here for 3 years and wouldn't dream of changing to anywhere else in Exeter! Insane gym with great equipment, perfect location and a professional skilled team of PTs. The kind of gym you go to and even when it's busy you get your workout done, always see a friendly face and have a chat, honestly the best independent gym I've been to

Negative experience: Unfortunately I have been overcharged £100+ after cancelling my membership back in March 2025. I have repeatedly asked (by text and email) for my monthly membership fee to stop being paid. Although my initial request for cancellation was acknowledged, since then I have been completely ignored and the payments have continued to be taken. I have now put a block on multiple Quay Fitness payments yet they continue to be taken each month from a different account number. I’m now in the process of taking Quay Fitness to small claims court. Obviously, I cannot recommend Quay Fitness. The whole process of ignoring me over something so simple is strange and annoyingly time consuming. For what it is worth, find another gym, there are plenty in Exeter.

Fantastic experience: Great little gym in the heart of Exeter, lots of personal training goes on here, away from the crowds of people at the commercial gyms. If you train by yourself like I do you will often find yourself outnumbered by those having 1-1 PT sessions making it a very comfortable place for those wishing to have personal training sessions. The staff are very friendly, you can either chat away for ages or if you are in that GET IT DONE mood, just pop those headphones in and you are left alone to do your thing. Plus it has a pool table.....because why not.
Fantastic experience: Have been going to this gym for over 2 years now and it’s the best gym I have been to! I live in exeter and over the past years I have tried several gyms but have always felt uncomfortable and not very motivated to go there! At quay fitness I feel comfortable even to go in and say hello , the people are so lovely, the staff is awesome and very welcoming, they are fun, hard working and always there to help if you have any questions. They are always ready to help you with your goals or your day whoever you are talking to! Nice clean and more intimate environment. The pts are awesome , I have had my pt luke for over two years now and love going there for my pt sessions or other sessions when they are available!
Fantastic experience: Really professional and well equipped gym. All the staff are really helpful and knowledgable and a welcome free personal training session is offered when you join to help you get started. Really friendly PTs in the gym, happy to help and in a great location on the Quay! Really fun and motivating environment and they offer coffee & protein shakes at their mini coffee counter. Even a game of pool!
Fantastic experience: All the staff at Quay fitness are very friendly and knowledgeable. They are all more than happy to help! The gym has all the equipment that you will need, kept tidy and clean. There’s a coffee counter on site too. Overall, a positive, feel good place to train. All of this right on the quay!

Fantastic experience: The PT I'm working with is one of the Quay Fitness team and so I use the gym once a week for my session with him. I was feeling pretty nervous about being in a 'proper' gym when I first visited Quay Fitness, but I really didn't need to. It has a super friendly vibe and I never feel like I don't have a right to be there. The equipment is all clean, everything seems new and not worn and it's always tidy. I'd spend more time there if I could. Definitely recommend and would choose it over any of the big chain gyms any day,
Fantastic experience: I started training at Quay Fitness about six months ago and it’s a great gym. It’s full of all the equipment you’ll ever need and all the trainers are super knowledgeable. As it’s an independent gym, it has a real community feel, which I love. So many of the bigger chains can feel quite daunting when you step inside, however everyone at QF is so friendly and approachable, from the trainers to the other members. Since working with Joe, I’ve noticed improvements in my strength and overall fitness but the biggest change has been to my confidence! I would 100% recommend Quay Fitness to anyone looking for a new gym or considering investing in PT sessions – it’s a brilliant environment in which to build confidence and work towards your fitness goals.
Fantastic experience: Quay fitness was the best decision I made moving to this gym. The gym maintains a high standard of cleanliness and nice friendly team of PT's happy to help with anything. The onsite sports therapy team on hand to assist whenever needed. Joe has bought my fitness levels to another level and this has payed off when I have been refereeing around the country.

Fantastic experience: Quay fitness is a great place with great facilities and people! I started online coaching with Joe, he's helped me massively with form on certain exercises, improved my overall knowledge around fitness and gotten me results in as little as 3 months. I'm already being told I've lost weight, while maintaining and building strength/muscle. The main thing Joe has helped with is making my time at the gym effective, I'm only going 3 times a week due to family commitments, so I can't waste a second in the gym wondering if something going to help me reach my goals I need to know it will. Even tho I'm paying for online coaching I feel like I'm not because I'm making more progress quicker than I ever have on my own that = less hours in the gym more time working or seeing family, a big thing for my hectic lifestyle.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym with friendly and supportive staff who really knows their stuff. A refreshing change from the standard commercial gyms with an atmosphere that isn't intimidating and feels good to be part of. My PT, Dan Hall is someone who really listens to what you want to achieve, he will set up and be realistic with the best fitness/nutrition plan to suit you. He really encourages you to do your absolute best without being arrogant or pushy.
Fantastic experience: Spent a few months in Exeter for work and needed a gym to join as I wanted to build strength for a triathlon. Tried a few but Quay Fitness was by far the best. Staff very friendly and supportive. Provided me with great planning and advice, and kept me motivated. Equipment was high quality and location ideal. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: This gym is very very good. The location, equipment and atmosphere are second to none. I’ve never met a more friendly membership. But, most importantly, the PTs are superb. My trainer Mark is right on point every session. And the others are also fantastic. Their help goes way beyond pumping iron - diet, attitude, mental side etc.
Fantastic experience: An amazing gym and love the atmosphere! Ive always signed up to bigger commercial gyms which are more intimidating to me, so its been a such a nice change to attend Quay Fitness. My trainer Libby is a breath if fresh air- she is so friendly and motivates me to achieve my goals. She works me hard without being pushy and I always come away from her sessions feeling like I've accomplished something. Thank you Libby :) Would definately recommend Quay Fitness.
Fantastic experience: Very clean gym with great atmosphere and dedicated team and brilliant personal trainers. One of the best gyms I have used. I would highly recommend Starr Bassett as one of their PT’s, she is very knowledgeable and motivational personal trainer. I love every session with her.
Fantastic experience: I have trained with Paul for the past two months now and am really enjoying our weekly training sessions. As a complete beginner to weight training and structured exercise, Paul has been great at creating a non-intimidating and encouraging environment. I have learnt a great deal and now have the confidence to train in all areas of the gym! I can’t believe how quickly my mood, energy levels and physical appearance have improved too.

Positive experience: Paul has been very thoughtful when planning our sessions, which take place in my home, gradually increasing the intensity of exercises, but encouraging all the time. He does keep me focused, but if something really does not suit me, he adapts it or changes it to achieve the same results. I am really benefitting from the sessions with him.

Fantastic experience: Great trainer, both fun and effective to work with. 6 months, from 120kg deadlift to 180kg, i could not ask more for that. unfortunately i dropped out his session due to relocation, but will remain good friend for sure.

Fantastic experience: Hi, promised I would be back well here I am. Paul did not know what he was taking on seven months ago!!! To say the least my health has been so bad (COPD, weak muscles and knee replacement pending) that Paul has had to change my whole programme when he has walked through the door. All I can say is that the improvements in the last seven months have been fantastic; I can walk further than I have done for three years (did go out in a wheel chair) my upper body strength is coming on leaps and bounds. I will never run a marathon or be a gold medal weight lifter but Paul has helped me to get back my life, rather than sitting on my bum all day. Thanks Paul, you should be called Mr Motivator. Lyn

Fantastic experience: My partner and I decided to employ a personal trainer after Christmas in an effort to kick start our weight loss and fitness program. We chose Paul on the basis of other reviews we'd read about him and have not been disappointed. We were not in the market for a drill-sergeant approach, more someone who would work us hard and challenge us without making us feel demoralised. Paul has come up trumps on all fronts. He put together a personalised training program that has been both effective and challenging, but never to the extent that we felt overwhelmed. After our initial six week program we have now gladly committed to training weekly with Paul and look forward to our weekly sessions and to adding to the progress we have achieved to date.

Fantastic experience: I found Paul to be an excellent trainer. I am 70 years old and he was respectful of my age with the exercises he set for me but at the same time did not allow me to slack. I would have liked to have continued with my training but my finances would not allow it. However I have put into practice much of the training that Paul gave me while I was with him.

Fantastic experience: I took up training with Paul because I wanted to build muscle and to help get fitter. I've had a few sessions with him each week over the last six months and feel so much more confident in using the various gym equipment and executing different exercises. I've also noticed how I feel much healthier and my muscles are bigger and I feel more confident in the way I look. Paul has been a great support in achieving my goals, he is highly skilled and would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a personal trainer in and around the Exeter area.

Fantastic experience: I have been training with Paul for six weeks now and the difference in my overall fitness and weight loss has been unbelievable. Paul is a great PT he pushes me when I need it and is very patient when I need him to be. Paul listened to my needs and built a my personal programme around this. I would highly recommend Paul to anyone who is serious about getting fit and wants to engage a personal trainer.

Fantastic experience: 7 months on edit: I have been working with Paul now for about 7 months and still think he is an absolutely amazing trainer. He pushes me and gets me to work harder than I would ever work training on my own and I have achieved so much. I still have a long way to go as I was starting at a very heavy and extremely unfit starting point, but here are just a few things I can no do, that I could not before, both the little things and big are just as important to me. I can now lift 100kg, I can do full sit ups, I can walk for miles, I can do press ups, I can sit cross legged, I can kneel down, I can keep up with my brownies, I can run for a bus and not die and keep up with people half my size who have been training for years in a boxercise class. All things I never thought I could do and with Paul's help and encouragement I have achieved, along with reducing my severe anxiety to almost nothing and sleeping better than I have ever slept. I have also found a genuine love for what I am doing, it is no longer a chore to go to the gym, its something I look forward to at the end of a working day. I am someone who easily gains weight and so this is something I will need to work at forever, but Paul has helped me find a way to enjoy it and look forward to continuing working on myself. Edit: In an edit to the below review I posted a couple of weeks ago, I have come to the end of my initial first 6 weeks with Paul and done my measurements. In 6 weeks I have lost 4 inches off my waist, 3 inches from my stomach, 3 inches from hips/bum and many more inches elsewhere!!! Hooray!!! :-) Original: I first looked for a personal trainer to help me to lose weight, I just searched applied to a database of trainers and Paul contacted me back. We had our initial meeting to talk about what I wanted from training and it was clear from the start that Paul was full of knowledge and really cared about helping people reach their fitness and health goals. I have now been training with Paul for over a month and the improvements I have seen in myself is amazing, it is no longer just about losing weight for me either. Paul has helped me immensely with nutrition, exercise and general lifestyle. In just 5 short weeks I am less stiff and aching, especially first thing in the morning, my energy is up, I am sleeping better and the inches are coming off. I could not recommend Paul highly enough as a personal trainer.

Fantastic experience: I wanted a Personal Trainer to help me loose weight, get fitter and improve my energy levels. Paul seemed a little different to the other personal trainers around Exeter, so decided to sign up to 6 weeks initially. Paul really seems to understand what motivates me to loose weight, what exercises I enjoy and has created a variable routine which is helping me loose weight. He understands the science / physiology behind weight loss and exercise and can explain this in a way which makes sense. I particularly like the flexibility around when we have training sessions and ability to fit around my home, work and family commitments. After a few weeks Paul really understood me, my values and attitude to exercise. He pushes me during our training sessions, in a nice gentle way, rather than drill sergeant you see so many other personal trainers doing. I would recommend Paul to my friends and family.
