Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski Slope

Fantastic experience: Went to try snowboarding for the first time having gone skiing the previous year. Was nervous at first but the trainers put my mind and worries at ease. With their instruction and patience in answering all my technical questions, I progressed quite well in an hour session. Will definitely be coming back to improve on what I've learnt, cheers guys!

Fantastic experience: Just had my first beginner ski lesson for adults at Silksworth and granddaughter aged 9 had her first ski lesson at the same time with a different group. Jordan our instructor was great. My granddaughter loved her lesson. Looking forward to more lessons to improve and get the basics. Great value and all the staff were so friendly.

Positive experience: Ridiculous having gates on the football pitches which aren't open so a long walk round when the balls go over the small fence all to save an extra 5 to 10 minutes locking them at the end of the day parking is also Ridiculous small spaces not helped by not opening the overflow no path down from there

Fantastic experience: Ski slope is separate from the sports complex with its own access road who’s entrance is adjacent to the Lake View club. My daughter had 2 hours of lessons on a bitterly cold day, the instructor was very experienced having skied since she was 3! Well worth the money.

Fantastic experience: Thank you for ensuring that my 10 year old & his friends thoroughly enjoyed his birthday party on 08/02. They loved the snow-tubing and skate park/outdoor slides afterwards. The party room was great too! Nothing was a trouble for the staff whom were all fab. Particular thank you to (I’m sure his name was Darren) whom supported me when I had a bit of an issue with one of the kids. His calm, patient approach really helped in the situation. Fantastic experience: I brought my daughter and some friends for lessons here and I can commend the instructors: they are very good. The place itself has two slopes: a small slope for lessons and a longer slope for those who can ski.

Positive experience: Staff are really helpful and the slope is great. Can't fault the facilities and I hope the council keeps them going...would have been five stars but the car park is a nightmare when it's busy as it's too small.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant ski slope built on the former site of Silksworth colliery. There is also a range of sports facilities including six 3G football pitches. The ski slope offers block bookings of five sessions with a qualified instructor. You may also make singular bookings if you want to. On request, when you book for a second session you can ask to be with the same instructor. Adjacent to the ski slope there is a small coffee stand that has outdoor seating in front of the main slope. In your booking you also get ski boots and ski hire. When with an instructor for your first few lessons you will be on the nursery slope, which has a rope lift, and when ready you will move to the main slope, which has a button lift. From the top of the main ski slope you can sometimes see views of Newcastle. Please note that this facility also has a ski club operating on the main slope so please be aware of the time that it runs. There is also ‘snow tubing’ near the nursery slope so please be mindful when skiing or snowboarding. I would really recommend John as your ski instructor at Silksworth he will guide you through how skis work and how many turns to make to slow down on the slope. John will also give you feedback at the end and during your session. I will be returning to Silksworth.

Positive experience: Amazing place! There are 2-3 tennis courts and a small soft play for children! There is also a swimming pool and a gym. Outside you can find a park with loads of slides and things to climb on! There’s so much to do!!!

Negative experience: Customer service is bad. I've been trying to book a block of 4 lessons, called two times, and been told that someone was going to contact me but never called back. Then there was no slot for the coming weekend, which was important for me. Disappointing

Fantastic experience: Easy to access tabs, nabigate and locate the required information. Fantastic staff, very helpful and was able to sort my booking very quickly - even when I had to call back and amend! A fantastic start to our experience. Looking forward to our visit.

Positive experience: Nice place to train when the grass is too wet. Gets really busy on certain days. Wonder when they're going to re tarmac the road. Think the roads in Mumbai are in better condition.

Fantastic experience: My son did a skiing lesson. The dry ski slope is in very good condition and the coach he got was well trained, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. You don't need to go for lessons, you can also ski freely and they have lots of fun different activities such as going down the snow on rubber rings

Fantastic experience: Lots going on, its an old colliery land scaped into a sport area with ski slope, all wheather football pitches and skateboard park.There ia a athletic track and various chances fo the like of shot putting,discus throwing. There is als two lakes, one is for fishing with disable access. To top it all there is a leasure centre next to it with pool , tenis and fitness centre. The area is landscape and is good for walking. Just to add to it, when you are finished you can do a spot of shopping as there are a Sainsbury and the Range next door. Enjoy.

I was a total novice and have learned loads thanks to Eleanor my instructor who was patient and professional. I would totally recommend taking lessons here !

Fantastic experience: Its brilliant for kids and adults, skiing, swimming, footy, playground, gym what more could you need. Its a little complicated at first to get parked in the right spot, but its so fun it doesn't matter!

Positive experience: Decent place but you can tell the money has only been spent on the 5G football pitches as it needs some serious investment into the main complex, changing rooms and dryslopes.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing… my instructor Kiera is super nice and always willing to help me up and let me try again! She is super patient with me and lets me know when I’ve made a mistake but tells me how to fix it. Loved my two lessons so far and it has made me overjoyed to come every week! Thanks Kiera

Positive experience: Generally good all around, however, it has seen better days tied, worn and in desperate need of a deep clean. The ski boots and skis never get cleaned. And the instruction is very hit-and-miss most of the time they are late to the slope, and the instruction is basic with little interaction. Worth a visit but as with most serviced based things now there is no service people think they can do the minimum amount of work and class that as service.

Positive experience: I'm regular gym user and I ve had to take the bull by the horns used my picker to pick up bottles and cans as the car park and front entrance seems to get ignored when people drop their litter!! etc we get people from all over UK using our excellent facilities and yet the management and staff have failed to keep the place tidy outside so, its taken a gym user to sort as these bottles and cans etc have been there for weeks and weeks (which is not good ) c'mon people get a bit of pride back.

Positive experience: Ski slope great, football pitches and athletic track great. Parking appalling, especially Saturday morning till early Saturday afternoon. No provision for spectating on football matches or athletics other than the surrounding hill sides. Spectators not allowed on edge of pitch and forced to watch from muddy slopes around the pitches. Access for disabled people to the pitches very difficult, as is access to spectate from the hillsides. There is also a skateboard park that's very popular and often crowded with locals and visitors.

Positive experience: Silksworth centre is great place for families and tennis players. There is a new gym extension and lots of new gear there. So why let yourselves down with poor cleanliness and maintenance? Especially the tennis courts - lots of rubbish. The roof still leaks and in the ball park, there are no balls, ball machine doesn't work! And why oh why is the soft play more expensive than the Aquatic centre, a whole £.

Fantastic experience: Took our grandson to play in the soft play area. It cost £3.90 for 90 minutes. Excellent value. He enjoyed himself alot and is keen to return. We were surprised at the quality of the coffee and snacks available in the centre and at reasonable prices. The staff were friendly, efficient and informative. We will return

We found the ski centre staff to be very friendly and helpful. The instructors Tracey and Chloe were first class, and very relaxed and friendly. A good experience
