Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Booked a PT for half an hour as I wasn’t comfortable using an app as my induction (paid for in advance in the app and had confirmation that it was booked). The PT app took ages to work. Turned up waited 10 mins at reception, girl came out very apologetic for my weight but did have a bit of a go at a member of staff that didn’t have his radio turned on in front of me while I was trying to talk to her. PT didn’t turn up was told there must have been a mix up and I should have to call to reschedule!! Will be contacting them for my £ back as appears unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: ¹⅓
Fantastic experience: I am a full time member of Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre and find it to be a fantastic facility. The swimming pool is perfect for me and my two sons, aged 2 and 4. They absolutely love the free play sessions and the exciting water slide. The gym provides everything I need without the distractions often found in more luxurious gyms. It's straightforward, practical, and effective. The staff are incredibly friendly, amazing, and always ready to assist. Their welcoming attitude truly enhances our visits. Highly recommend Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre
Fantastic experience: Staff were great. So easy to set up via the App. I also took the Induction via an 11 minute video on the App.I was on holiday and just wanted to have a couple of sessions in the gym. Very reasonably priced for a session and an easy process. Would recommend if you like to work kfc some holiday indulgence whilst in the area
Fantastic experience: I have been going to this gym for 2 yrs now. The facilities are first rate so are the staff. They have a good amount of equipment and it's all in good condition. I would recommend this gym/ pool
Negative experience: The changing rooms are filthy and the pool area not much better, in need of some serious tlc
Negative experience: Such a shame what this gym is turning into. Looks like the staff no longer care. Air con in Gym broken, equipment old and rusty, flaked paint around gym has been there for months. Gym barely ever cleaned. Everyone active in Saltburn, Redcar and Scarborough are absolute head and shoulders above in terms of quality machinery and cleanliness/comfort.
Fantastic experience: Only used the gym so can’t comment on the pool. I went at 8:30am and the gym was really quiet with only 2 people in so had the weight section to myself. Equipment includes cable machines, smith machine, wide range of dumbbells and lots of other pin loaded machines. Wide range of cardio equipment including ski machine. Staff really friendly aswell, small gym but works well
Positive experience: its alright
Negative experience: Website timetable not up to date - turned up and couldn’t swim!
Fantastic experience: Good swimming pool, changing rooms clean and well maintained
Thanks for the great feedback Cam!
Negative experience: I was on holiday in Pickering for half term and emailed for a free pass as advertised to try the facilities.I am still waiting. The staff were not helpful unlike the residents in Pickering.
Fantastic experience: We took the kids for an hour session. Loads of floats and decent slide. Kids had a great price. £22 for a family of four seemed reasonable too. Changing and pool nice and clean.
Thank you for the great feedback Richard! We look forward to you returning in the near future.
Negative experience: Having purchased my last 3 costume from here, I asked if I could try a new potential buy on and was told ' no we don't allow that'. Strange because I did try the others on. I don't live locally but travel to swim here and buy things. Rubbish experience today
Negative experience: I did wonder why the pool was so empty when I arrived with my toddler, but after spending 20 minutes in the pool I had to get my toddler out and dried before he got pneumonia, he was so cold and I wasn't much better. My toddler generally isn't one to feel the cold at all, so I put this down to the water temperature which wasn't pleasant. Now I know why the pool was so empty.
Fantastic experience: Nice water slide. Family changing area
Positive experience: Disappointed in the disability facilities.
Positive experience: Don't no just dropping school children off (coach driver)
Hi Brian You should certainly pop in while the children are swimming! We would love to show you around the gym and show you the facilities you could be using while you wait.
Negative experience: One hour for£3.65 Appalling Ive recently moved here and my council run pool where I used to live had a swim lane pool and a large pool with a wave machine. Families could stay as long as they wanted and all for £3.50 each ( children and pensioners had concessionary tickets ) Why is this facility privatised?
Thank you for taking the time to write a review Marlene. The price of the sessions are some of the lowest priced sessions within North Yorkshire and we are always trying to keep the costs as low as we can, despite the energy and utility crisis which we are all facing. The leisure facilities are run by Everyone Active in partnership with Ryedale District Council. The facilities are not privatised, they are just supported in the delivery by a leisure partner.Hopefully we will see you back using the centre in the near future!
Positive experience: Pool is a bit dated and prices are quite expensive for a one off session (£4.50 for an hour's swim) but the pool was quiet when we went so we were able to enjoy it more.
Thanks for the review Suzannah! Although we are a little dated, the centre is ready to welcome you back for another swim in the near future :)
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service. Staff very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend joining this gym
Fantastic experience: Very clean. Well spaced.
Positive experience: Very friendly staff, however finding the water a little cold at the moment. I do hope that they get this sorted.
Fantastic experience: Very clean. Well spaced.
Fantastic experience: Had a good lane swim. Pool is divided into two halves down the length. There were four in our half so we followed the clockwise rotation system which ends up with a lot of shuffling along the wall at the ends until one got out and then we swapped to just keeping to our section of the lane. Be warned that the lockers don't take a new pound coin which gets jammed if you try to use one... as I did requiring me running out to reception in my trunks, the lady on reception with her trusty screwdriver and a substituted trolley token to resolve. It is free to park and at £4.80 for a lane swim when I'm not a member it's a bargain!
Fantastic experience: Clean pool and poolside. Different sessions for lanes and fun sessions. Staff are super friendly, efficient, helpful. Lots of free parking. Love it.
Fantastic experience: Great place, although small it has all you need to maintain a healthy level of fitness, swimming pool as well!!
Positive experience: Disappointing. Small floodlit, tidy car park on arrival. Tidy reception and helpful staff. A small range of swimming gear for sale here. £4.20 adult admission if you present your Everyone Active card if you are a Ryedale resident and can be purchased at reception. Unfortunately when you get into the changing rooms they are scruffy, not so clean, quite a few lockers broken and cubicle doors will not shut. The pool was not much better. The grouting was green in places and rusty around the filters although the pool was a pleasant temperature. This development definitely needs money spending on it. Not good enough Ryedale council.
Positive experience: Really good gym . Could do with a few more aquafit classes in the pool though. Really friendly reception staff. Pity about the gym opening and closing hours, especially on a weekend
Fantastic experience: First visit today for senior swimming session. Helpful and friendly receptionist took details and issued card efficiently and explained options clearly. Pool was larger than expected and the water a very pleasant temperature. Surprisingly quiet and calm with no overcrowding. Changing room area was clean and adequate with showers and lockers. Will return on a regular basis to enjoy this facility.
Fantastic experience: Good spot to go swimming!
Fantastic experience: Nice friendly place. Would recommend
Positive experience: Good facilities and helpful staff
Positive experience: It is what it is.... ☺
Fantastic experience: For upper body training this place isn't to bad. In my opinion it could be cleaner and certain things could be updated. But all in all it has everything you need to get fit. Beware the changing rooms are mixed and you might see some naked people in the shower, it's always some old guy doing that as well. Don't go expecting to do squats and dead lifts, as there is 1 Smith machine and 1 barbell. The staff are nice friendly as are the members. I can't say anything about the pool as I never use it. One gripe I do have is the vending machines selling unhealthy crisps and chocolate, as the temptation to buy a mars bar or a bag of mnms is always there after I've had a workout.
Positive experience: Friendly staff. Reasonable amenities. Good range of fitness classes. Could be updated.
Positive experience: Good facility for a smaller town.
Fantastic experience: My granddaughter is learning to swimming here they are excellent
Fantastic experience: Brilliant
Fantastic experience: Top place.
Fantastic experience: Good place to go
Positive experience: Did a spontaneous visit here, staff very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Nice and tidy changing rooms with loads of space and big pool.
Fantastic experience: What a lovely pool, a lovely reception with helpful staff, low prices for access, a lovely clean pool with separate changing rooms for men women and disabled access, with ramps out the front a lift inside and hoists on the poolside.
Fantastic experience: Good clean facility with friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Fun time
Positive experience: The pool seems much warmer this week than usual. More clarity on swim times (particularly term/ holiday times) would be appreciated as i have left several times with the kids being disappointed. How about a bigf banner on the front page of the website saying swim times today
Positive experience: Good pool
Fantastic experience: Great for kids
Negative experience: My son went to the toilet and there was a man showering naked in there. I understand it's mixed changing rooms, but I don't think that's appropriate and the staff aren't willing to do anything about it. Even the gym members jokingly call it 'Jimmy Savile's playground'. Personally I don't think it's a joking matter. It's not safe for young children, in fact it's quite the opposite. I find it very worrying that while our children are having School swimming lessons, members of the public can be naked in the shower.
Fantastic experience: What a lovely pool, a lovely reception with helpful staff, low prices for access, a lovely clean pool with separate changing rooms for men women and disabled access, with ramps out the front a lift inside and hoists on the poolside.
Positive experience: Nice local pool
Fantastic experience: Plenty of facilities good gym good pool
Fantastic experience: Very good local pool, friendly helpful receptionist, clean and practicable changing cubicles, hot showers and not overcrowded.
